Property Lawyer
Are you an experienced Property Solicitor, Licensed Conveyancer or Legal Executive looking for your next opportunity? Join our small, dynamic, and busy law firm based in the picturesque town of Hay-on-Wye. With a strong, longstanding client base, we are seeking a highly skilled professional to join our team.
Key Responsibilities:
Independently manage a caseload of residential conveyancing matters, including freehold and leasehold sales and purchases, remortgages, and transfers of equity.
Handle more complex transactions such as new build and shared ownership properties.
Provide expert guidance throughout the full conveyancing process, from initial instructions through to completion.
Utilise case management systems effectively to ensure the smooth running of all cases.
Maintain excellent client relationships and provide clear, concise communication throughout the transaction process.
The Ideal Candidate:
A qualified Property Solicitor or Licensed Conveyancer with experience in residential conveyancing.
Confident in handling all aspects of the conveyancing process, including leasehold and new-build properties.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to work independently and manage a busy caseload.
Proficient with case management systems and IT systems.
Able to provide exceptional service to a diverse range of clients.
Practice and Compliance Manager
We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Practice and Compliance Manager to join our team.
This is a key operational role within the firm, responsible for overseeing day-to-day compliance, risk management, HR administration, supplier coordination, and general business continuity. The successful candidate will ensure that the firm operates in line with all relevant regulatory frameworks, including SRA, GDPR, and CQS requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Compliance & Risk Management
Maintain and develop firm-wide policies, including AML, risk management, financial management, file and case management.
Manage GDPR compliance, including breach records and ICO registration.
Ensure ongoing SRA and CQS compliance
Manage mortgage panel memberships.
Oversee practising certificate renewals and SRA audit preparation.
Organise and maintain training and competency records across the firm.
Practice Management
Lead internal file reviews, manage file opening/closing protocols, and oversee archiving.
Oversee the firm’s approach to client care and engagement.
Monitor and update website content and social media in line with regulatory requirements.
Maintain template documentation, central registers, and the billing system.
Maintain and lead on the firm’s CRM system.
Attend, minute and action fortnightly fee earner meetings.
HR & Staff Management
Maintain staff contracts, terms and conditions, and the staff manual.
Coordinate payroll, holiday and absence records, and performance-related training and development.
Manage recruitment processes and staff data relevant to business continuity.
Responsible for liaising with agents and organising locum cover as and when required.
Supplier & Facilities Management
Manage relationships and contracts with all suppliers including IT providers, CRM, utilities, IT support, dictation and printing equipment providers, and ID verification services.
Coordinate utilities, insurance, office maintenance, cleaning, and supplies.
Oversee management of portals including Land Registry, Companies House, SDLT/LTT, and probate platforms.
Finance & Accounts Liaison
Work directly with the legal cashiers and in line with the SRA rules and regulations.
Support accounts team with monthly reconciliations, write-offs, residual balances and month end reports.
Liaise with external accountant and manage internal finance-related compliance such as breach reporting and SRA/PII records.
Monitor cost transfers, payment requests, and CRM financial workflows.
Responsible for all day-to-day bank payments.
Responsible for payroll and HMRC reporting.
Health & Safety & Premises
Act as the firm’s Health & Safety officer and Fire Warden, including first aid responsibilities.
Manage cyclical compliance checks (gas servicing, EPC, fire safety) and oversee general repairs and office security.
What We’re Looking For:
Prior experience in a similar role within a law firm or regulated professional services environment.
Excellent organisational skills with a meticulous attention to detail.
A strong understanding of financial procedures within a legal or professional services environment.
Confident communicator with the ability to liaise effectively with staff, suppliers, regulators, and management.
A proactive problem-solver with strong initiative and a high level of integrity.
Competent in using and being responsible for practice and case management software.
Working knowledge of SRA regulations, GDPR, and AML requirements, or the ability to demonstrate experience in a similarly regulated environment.
The successful applicant will have ultimate responsibility for the tasks outlined above, with support and in consultation with the firm’s directors as necessary. They will also be supported in certain aspects by other members of staff.
The position is full time and based in our office in Hay-on-Wye. A parking space is provided. Salary dependent on experience.
